What kind of experience is required?
Approximately 85% of the offered opportunities do NOT require any experience. Training and Development Programs are provided by the financial organizations. The purpose of this sponsored program is to help new people enter the financial services field.
Is there telemarketing and/or cold-calling involved?
None of the opportunities being offered by the financial firms participating in this program allow for telemarketing and/or cold-calling. The opportunities being offered are professional and require certifications through provincial regulators. Certification training is provided and most firms cover 100% of the associated costs on your behalf.
What is your placement percentage?
In 2022, Careers Canada was able to place 82% of all candidates into a role in financial services. Some of the reasons for the high placement rate include:
• The number of firms working with Careers Canada to find and develop new talent;
• The quantity and quality of the opportunities that are available through Careers Canada;
• The high level of training and development offered by the participating firms.
What is the process?

2. Careers Canada will connect with you to help determine your career preferences.
3. Indicate the area(s) in financial services that interest you most.

5. Careers Canada sends you information about the available opportunities in your area that best reflect your career preferences.
6. Careers Canada provides a high-value and personal introduction to the Hiring Managers that represent the career opportunities that you are most interested in pursuing.
Why are there no fees for this service?
This is a sponsored program. The intent is to assist those looking to start a career in financial services. Candidates are not charged a fee to use Careers Canada's services. It should also be noted that you will never be asked for sensitive personal information (birthdate, SIN, banking, etc) at anytime by Careers Canada.
I don't know much about financial services, does this matter?
Perhaps surprisingly, people skills are considered to be far more valuable than math skills by most of the firms. The vast majority of people have very limited knowledge of finance before working in the industry. FULL Training & Development is provided for most of the opportunities that are offered.
Can I keep my current job as I am being professionally trained for this field?
Yes, you may keep your current employment. This is an opportunity for you to try something new. Remember the costs of your training and development (including licensing, if required) are covered by the financial institution (by approximately 75% of the current opportunities). If you feel like it is not a good fit for you at any time, you may simply withdraw from the process.
I am not very good with numbers, does this matter?
There are two types of people that excel in the financial services industry: those that have strong math skills (who work behind the scenes) and those that are good with people. Most of the opportunities that are available through Careers Canada are geared towards candidates who enjoy working with people rather than numbers. Those with strong people skills are heavily encouraged to explore the various opportunities, as they tend to do very well.
I am interested in doing something part-time. Is this a possibility?
Yes. Part-time, Transitional (starting part-time and migrating to full-time in 12-24 months) and Full-time opportunities are available.
What is the difference between Part-time, Transitional, and Full-time?
Part-time opportunities are those that typically require an average of 10-15 hours a week (although it may be less than 10 hours, depending on the opportunity).
Transitional opportunities begin as part-time but allow for the possibility of moving to full-time in the future. This is especially useful for individuals who desire to maintain their current employment while exploring a new industry.
Full-time opportunities are those that are typically more than 30 hours a week.
For whom are these opportunities best suited?
Opportunities place an emphasis on a healthy work/life balance, compensation, and/or career advancement. You get to determine what is most important to you and we will connect you with the opportunities that best reflect your preferences.
Who can participate in this program?
This program is available for residents of Canada that meet the eligibility requirements. Requirements include:
• no criminal background
• no current bankruptcies
• must be age 18 or over
• must have the ability to work legally in Canada
